Online check-in is available from 30 hours until three hours before departure. This service is only available for flights departing from certain airports, including London, Paris, Rome, Nairobi, Amsterdam, and Mombasa.

Passengers wishing to check-in via airport check-in desks are required to do so at least two and a half hours before departure

Hand luggage: each Economy Class passenger is allowed one piece of hand baggage weighing up to 10kg (22lb) and with maximum dimensions of 55 x 38 x 20cm (21 x 15 x 8in) as well as the following personal items: an overcoat, an umbrella or walking stick, a handbag, a camera, a laptop, a “reasonable amount” of reading material, and a fully collapsible wheelchair or pair of crutches. 

Checked: on flights departing from Europe, each Economy Class passenger is allowed up to two pieces of luggage, each with a maximum weight of 23kg (50lb). Business-Class passengers are allowed three pieces of luggage, with the same maximum weight limit applying. 

On flights within Africa, Economy Class passengers are allowed up to 30kg (66lb) of hand luggage, and Business Class passengers are allowed up to 40kg (88lb) with no item weighing more than a maximum of 32kg (70.5lb). 

Excess: charged according to route, with rates varying throughout Africa, Asia and elsewhere. For flights to or from Europe, a charge of €100 or equivalent applies for excess of over 23kg (50lb) and under 32kg (70lb). Further items are charged at a rate of €200 or equivalent, with items over 32kg handled as freight.

Legroom depends upon which aircraft in their fleet you are flying in. Generally, Economy Class passengers have a seat pitch of around 81cm (32in) and Business-Class passengers have a seat pitch of around 193cm (76in).

Seats are assigned during the booking process. Kenya Airways states that it cannot guarantee that you will be given your chosen seat.

One lap infant (under two years of age) may fly for free per passenger on flights within Kenya, whereas the airline charges around 10 per cent of an adult fare per infant on international flights. Kenya Airways must be informed of the infant before the flight, and only passengers of at least 15 years of age may hold the infant during the flight. Infants who are not occupying a seat are entitled to a hand luggage allowance of 10kg (22lbs) and one collapsible buggy. In Economy Class, infants occupying a seat charged as a child fare are entitled to two pieces of hand luggage, each with a maximum weight of 23kg (50lbs).

Kenya Airways does not offer discounts for senior travellers.

Except for service dogs, animals are not allowed to travel in the cabin and must be transported as cargo. Animals must be properly crated and all relevant documentation such as export or import permits must be obtained. The airline requires notice in advance, preferably at the time of booking, if you wish to transport your pet.

Musical instruments may only be carried in the cabin as part of your hand luggage allowance, and must meet the corresponding requirement. The airline advises that delicate musical instruments may not be suitable for carriage in the hold.

The airline’s in-flight entertainment system provides passengers with a range of movies, music and other content. However, Kenya Airways’ in-flight offerings vary according to which aircraft in their fleet you are flying in, with some providing larger selections of entertainment than others.

Flying Blue. Two kinds of miles are earned in Kenya Airways’ frequent flyer scheme: Award Miles, which may be used for travel, car rental, accommodation and more; and Level Miles, which increase a passenger’s status within the programme and the benefits that they may receive.

The Flying Blue programme is shared by Kenya Airways’ SkyTeam partners, so miles earned through flights with one member may be spent on flights with another.
