Cathay Pacific has its headquarters at Hong Kong International Airport. The much-admired carrier - Skytrax considers it a five-star airline - flies a fleet of Airbus A330s, A340s, and Boeing 747s and 777s According to legend, the airline was conceived by American Roy C. Farrell and some foreign correspondents at the bar of the Manila Hotel. Cathay Pacific operates scheduled passenger and cargo services to 114 destinations worldwide. It has a subsidiary, Dragonair, which flies to 30 destinations in the Asia-Pacific region.

Cathay Pacific Check-in

Passengers can check-in online and via a mobile from 48 hours up to 90 minutes before departure. Self check-in machines are available at several airports around the world including London Heathrow. Check-in desks close 60 minutes before the scheduled departure time. Passengers departing Heathrow may check-in for their flight on the day of departure only.

Cathay Pacific baggage allowance

Hand luggage: in all classes, Cathay Pacific passengers (except infants) are allowed one carry-on bag up to 56 x 36 x 23cm (22 x 14 x 9 in). The weight limit for Economy is 7kg, Business Class flyers may bring 10kg and First-Class travellers 15kg.

Checked: for travellers to and from the US, Canada, and some South American countries, Cathay Pacific permits two bags with a combined weight of 23kg. The baggage allowance for all other routes is 20kg in Economy.

Excess: Charges vary by zone. The UK is in Zone 4, Hong Kong is in Zone 1. Excess fees on a London-Hong Kong flight is $60 US per kg. A full list of charges is listed on www.cathaypacific.com.

Cathay Pacific doesn't offer discounts for older travellers.

Pets

Animals, other than service dogs, are not permitted in the passenger cabin. Pets such as dogs, cats, and birds will be crated and transported in the cargo compartment.

Carrying musical instruments

Small musical instruments can be carried onboard in line with standard carry-on baggage allowances. Larger instruments, such as a guitar, can be checked in. Finally, purchasing a seat is an option (request at least three working days before scheduled departure).

In-flight service

Cathay Pacific Economy Class offers a good selection of food (regional dishes and snacks) and drinks. Long-haul Business-Class travellers enjoy a choice of four entrées. In First Class haute cuisine-style five-course meals are served.
