Monarch is a British company offering scheduled and charter flights to popular holiday destinations. Avro and Cosmosair are sister companies. Like easyJet, Monarch is based at Luton Airport. The airline flies from Luton, Gatwick, Manchester and Birmingham to sunny spots such as Spain, Portugal,Gibraltar, the Canary Islands, the Balearics, Florida and Italy.

Monarch Airlines Check-in

Online check-in is available for scheduled flights between 18 days and four-and-a-half hours before departure. At the airport, check-in desks open two hours before departure or three hours before scheduled take-off for long-haul flights. They close 40 minutes before departure for show-haul and one hour before departure for long-haul flights.

Monarch Airlines baggage allowance

On Monarch's scheduled flights:

Hand luggage: passengers may bring one piece of hand luggage free of charge. The maximum weight is 10kg and total dimensions should be 56 x 45 x 25cm. There's a £50 / €62 fee if, at the gate, hand baggage is found to exceed the weight or dimensions.

Checked: There are fees for checking-in luggage on Monarch's scheduled flights (ZB flight number). Charges vary by route but on short-haul flights, passengers can expect to pay £15.99 / €19.99 per bag per one-way flight if organised online. Long haul, the baggage fees are £18.99 / €23.99 per bag, per one-way flight. It's more expensive to add checked baggage via the call centre or at airport - £25 / €31.

Excess: The maximum hold luggage allowance is 20kg, 30kg for Vantage Silver/Gold members. Monarch will not transport bags that weigh more than 32kg. Passengers may purchase extra baggage allowance in 3kg bundles up to a maximum of 12kg. Online, the cost is £7.50 / €9 per extra kg. Via the call centre or at the airport prices rise to £10 / €12 per extra kg.

Monarch Airlines legroom

Seat pitch: 74cm (29in). Travellers in Extra Legroom seats or in the Premium Economy cabin stretch out with 86cm (34in) of seat pitch.

Pre-arranged seating

Seats may be pre-reserved via the website for between £4.99/€5.99 and £8.99/€10.99 per seat, per flight. Vantage Club gold members are allocated their seats free of charge. Extra legroom seats may be purchased on charter and scheduled flights for between £10 and £25 per flight.

Passenger change details

On scheduled flights, changing the name on the ticket costs £100/€125 per name, per booking via the website or £120/€150 via the call centre. Changing the flight date or time is cheapest online. The cost is £27.50/€34 per person per one way flight plus any difference in fares. Via the website, the cost is £40/€50 and any difference in fares.

Passengers who have booked with a tour operator such as Monarch Holidays, Avro or Cosmos should contact them for name or date changes, baggage allowance confirmation and premium upgrades.

Child fares

Monarch doesn't offer discounts for child flyers although infants may travel, seated in an adult's lap, for £15 / €22.50 per scheduled flight.

Senior fares

There is no discount for older travellers.

Pets

Pets are transported in accordance with the PETS Passport Scheme. They travel in the hold of the aircraft on weekdays only. While they may depart any of the airports that Monarch flies from, they must return via London Gatwick or Manchester.

Carrying musical instruments

Standard baggage allowances apply. If the instrument exceeds size allowances an extra charge will apply.

In-flight service

Passengers may order in-flight meals online for approximately £9. Sandwiches and hot drinks are available for purchase too. No in-flight service on scheduled flights, though meals are available to buy, at £6.50. In-flight meals are provided on charter services.
