JetBlue Airways Check-in

At "Manage your flights" (book.jetblue.com) passengers can check-in online (between 24 hours and 90 minutes before the flight is scheduled to take off). Mobile check-in (mobile.jetblue.com) is also available for passengers with BlackBerry, mobile or other wireless device.

Remote check-in is available via a company called BAGS, Inc. at conference centres, ports (such as Boston, Fort Lauderdae, San Diego and San Francisco) and several Disney resorts in Orlando. Passengers may check-in for flights between two and four hours before their flight is scheduled to depart and drop off their luggage. The cost for this ranges up to $20. Onboard Cruise Ship Check-in is also available.

Check-in times vary according to airport - at JetBlue's hub New York JFK (JetBlue has a dedicated terminal T5) it's 90 minutes for domestic flights and two hours for international flights.

If you're stowing baggage in the hold, it must be checked at the airport at least 30 minutes prior to departure on domestic flights, and an hour prior to departure on international flights.

Passenger change details

Name changes are not allowed, instead the airline recommends that a flight is cancelled and the amount (less a $100 fee) transferred to a JetBlue credit account that is valid for one year. There is a $100 fee for changing or cancelling a Nonrefundable Fare with the remaining amount placed in an air-only account that valid for one year. Passengers changing a flight also must pay any difference in fares. If a passenger has purchased a Refundable Fare changes and cancellations (for full refund) are permitted. If changing a flight, passengers pay any difference in fares.

Child fares

Lap infants (children up to the age of two seated in an adult's lap) do not pay a fare on flights departing from the US. Customers intending to travel with an infant are required to call the airline and give them the child's name and birth date. If flying to the US from countries such as Aruba, the Bahamas, Bermuda or Costa Rica a fare is charged and travellers are advised to contact the airline 1-800-JETBLUE (538-2583) to arrange carriage. There is no discount for children.

Senior fares

JetBlue does not offer any discounts to older travellers.

Pets

JetBlue carries small cats and dogs in the cabin on domestic and international flights (not Barbados, Jamaica or St. Lucia however). Pets cannot be booked online and customers must call Reservations. Only four pets can be allowed per flight and the fee is $100 each way. JetPaws is the name of JetBlue's pet program and a travel guide is available to download (pdf format www.jetblue.com).

Carrying musical instruments

A musical instrument may be carried in place of a piece of cabin baggage. A separate seat can be purchased to carry a large or fragile instrument (in accordance with JetBlue Airways regulations) instead of checking it. There is no charge to check-in a musical instrument as long as they are within weight (22kg or 50lbs) and size requirements (up to 157cm or 62in).
