American Eagle Check-in

Online check-in is available between 24 hours and one hour before scheduled departure for domestic flights and 24 hours to two hours prior to take off for international flights.

For travel within the US (including Puerto Rico, and Hawaii and the US Virgin Islands), the recommended check-in time is at least 90 minutes before take-off when checking baggage or 60 minutes without baggage. A full list of recommended check-in times is available here.

American Eagle baggage allowance

For flights within the US, US Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and Canada: 

Hand baggage: one carry-on bag with the following dimensions: 56cm (22in) long, 35cm (14in) wide and 23cm (9in) high. A personal item such as a purse is also permitted. 

Checked baggage: $25 for the first checked bag, $35 for the second and $150 for any additional pieces of luggage. 

Excess baggage: overweight bags - 23kg to 32kg (50lbs to 70lbs) are charged at $100. A piece of luggage weighing between 32kg and 45kg (70lbs to 100lbs) is charged at $200. The oversized (more than 157cm or 62in) fee is $200 per piece.

Pre-arranged seating

Seats are assigned at check-in. Seats may also be selected during booking or before departure.

Passenger change details

Reservations may be changed online, if the fare class of the ticket allows.

Child fares

Lap infants (babies up to two years) fly free of charge. Children aged two and older are charged the adult fare.

Pets

Within the US and Canada, Mexico, Central and South America and the Caribbean the checked pet fee is $175 per kennel. Cabin pets are charged at $125 per kennel. Since June 2011, owners must have a health certificate for their pet for travel as checked baggage. There's no charge for service animals.

Carrying musical instruments

Small instruments can be carried on board as a piece of hand luggage. The airline recommends purchasing an adjacent seat for a larger instrument. Arrange by calling 1-800-433-7300.

In-flight service

Non-alcoholic drinks (juices, coffee etc) are complimentary. Alcoholic drinks and snacks are available for purchase on most flights. A packet of almonds or trail mix costs about $4.
